IAF files for news servers & for mail servers, but *both* forms *do* save the Password, along with the Account (logon) name. what people euphemistically refer to as "their OE messages & accounts", it is not always a trivial operation to actually restore or import that information back into OE in a usable form.

Before I do that, I export my settings under OE's Tools/Accounts for all my mail accounts and private news groups that are password protected to a floppy disk as IAF files and then just import them into the new setup. The DBX files for mail are easily imported as is the old WAB file. The only precaution there is

NOW if you need to sign on the News Server with an acct name and password then you will need to first ADD this News Server Acct through the setup wizard. Should I just export it to Outlook? And then after reinstalling the old OE import it from there, if it even can. I want to go back to IE/OE 4.

BUT I have now lost my view functions again for news groups. I now have it so I have to click ok to logon again (without password) and I have my view functions back. If the view options work properly there, and they should since OE will create new registry keys, you can import your existing mail folders.
